The pump is powered by inert gas or air, meaning no more risk of malfunctioning from overheating motors. The two-valve lift system, when used in ratchet mode, does not allow the gas to contact the sample water. This pump also enables a gentle discharge of the sample, eliminating the need for fragile and unreliable bladders. Panacea Pumps are available in a variety of sizes and materials. The miniaturized [P100 ](/products-pages/panacea-groundwater-sampling-maps/1)and [P125](/products-pages/panacea-groundwater-sampling-maps/2) are ideal for narrow or obstructed wells where clearance is an issue. The [P200](/products-pages/panacea-groundwater-sampling-maps/3) is designed for wells 2” and larger, and takes advantage of the additional space with a 200 mL chamber to boost purge and sample volume. All Panacea Pumps are available in 316 stainless steel, for increased depth capability up to 3000 Ft. BGS as well as resistance to corrosive or extreme environments.

## P100

The Panacea P100 features miniaturized BESST technology to achieve a small profile, capable of being installed in wells as narrow as 1” diameter. The P100 features 316 stainless steel construction for high pressure applications as well as maximum durability. The low pressure model uses QuickConnect to make assembly and deployment simple and efficient. For deeper applications, our high pressure model is used, featuring compression fittings similar to those on the other Panacea pumps. 
The P100 is built with a standard 80 micron Poly filter at the intake to prevent sediment from interfering with the valves. The filter connection can also be easily modified with a drop tube to customize the intake depth.

## P125

The Panacea P125 is designed for use in applications with wells too narrow for the Panacea P200, especially in 1.25” diameter [ZIST wells](/products-pages/multilevel-monitoring-wells/2). The P125 features 316 stainless steel construction for high pressure applications and the same size valves as the P200 for maximum flow rate.
The P125 is built with a standard 80 micron Poly filter at the intake to prevent sediment from interfering with the valves. The filter connection can also be easily modified with a drop tube to customize the intake depth.

## P200

The Panacea P200 is the most popular in BESST’s Panacea family. With a 1.75” outer diameter, the P200 is suitable for use in 2” and larger wells. It is available in Delrin Plastic,316 Stainless Steel, and PVC models depending on your application and budget.
The P200 also features a 60 micron alumina based ceramic filter as well as a redundant screen for thorough filtering, ensuring that no sediment becomes lodged in the valves. This advanced filter system keeps the pump operational for long-term use with little to no maintenance.

## SimulProbes Samplers

BESST’s SimulProbe is used in exploratory borehole drilling for environmental, water resource, agricultural, nuclear or mining industries, to collect a simultaneous soil core and groundwater or gas sample.

#### Highlights 

- In-Situ Headspace Test: Enhances accuracy of on-site field measurements by directly sampling the soil-gas downhole, rather than using unreliable ex-situ methods, which damage sample integrity.

## Standard-Sized SimulProbes

BESST’s SimulProbe is used in exploratory borehole drilling for environmental, water resource, agricultural, nuclear or mining industries, to collect a simultaneous soil core and ground water sample.

## The Crustbuster

The probe is driven into the ground by a hammer. It is then collected inside the core-barrel chamber within the lower half of the probe. The probe is lifted 4 inches, opening a hidden compartment that channels the groundwater into a water canister through Teflon straws located in the grooved edges running along the length of the core-barrel. The water canister is closed by back pressurization, which prevents the escape of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) while the probe is removed from the exploratory borehole. At the surface the soil core and groundwater sample can be easily removed from the SimulProbe for shipment to a laboratory.

## The MaxiProbe
BESST’s MaxiProbe is very similar to the CrustBuster. The MaxiProbe has a different thread type at the drive head, thinner walls above the core-barrel and a durability of 6,000 lbf strike.

## MiniProbe SimulProbe

#### Simultaneous soil core and soil gas sampling
BESST’s Mini SimulProbe is used in exploratory borehole drilling to collect a simultaneous soil core and soil gas samples. The probe is driven into the ground by a hammer, causing the soil to enter the core-barrel inside the probe. Next, the probe is lifted two inches, opening a hidden compartment that channels the soil gas into the probe through two Teflon straws located in the split half grooves that run along the edges of the core barrel. A vacuum pump is connected to a tube running from the probe to the surface. The vacuum pump is used to collect the gas directly from the soil. Once the gas sample has been collected using a Tedlar bag, Summa Canister or Soil Gas Syringe, the probe can be removed from the borehole and the soil core sample can be easily removed from the SimulProbe for shipment to a laboratory.

## Multilevel Monitoring Wells: Zone Isolated Sampling Technology

#### Zone Isolation Sampling Technologies
Purge volume reduction can be an important consideration for long-term groundwater monitoring programs. Early technical guidance from the US EPA Superfund Program prescribed the concept of 3-5 wet casing volume purging and was quickly adopted by many regulatory agencies throughout the US. This can lead to time, transport and storage problems when purging large volumes of water from a well, especially in remote or hard to access locations.

Zone Isolation Sampling Technologies (ZIST)™ [In-Line](/products-pages/multilevel-monitoring-wells/1) Systems isolate the well screen, allowing for a low-flow sampling and fast parameter stabilization, in which pumps do not draw stagnant water from the riser pipe above the screen. As a result, data quality is improved, costs are minimized (system components, drilling, installation, and operation over time), and sampling time reduced. BESST’s [Panacea Pumps ](/products-pages/panacea-groundwater-sampling-maps)dock with the ZIST™ Well Screen Receptacle located between the well screen and riser pipe and draw samples only from the well screen. The pump can easily be removed for maintenance, pumping tests, or use of other monitoring devices.

## Retro Zone Isolation Sampling Technologies

#### Reducing Purging Volume

Isolating the well screen from the rest of the well casing sharply reduces the required volume to be removed. Instead of using expensive and difficult inflatable packers to isolate the screened interval of a well, the BESST Retro ZIST uses a series of stacked conformable washers to seal the inside of the casing directly above the well screen with the support on the well bottom by a perforated support post. Standard Retro ZIST systems are designed for 2” and 4” diameter wells, with custom sizes available. Shown at the right is a 2” Retro ZIST system with two displacement barrels for illustration. Barrels stack to fit the length of the well screen.

#### Maximum Purge-Volume Reduction Using Volume Displacement Stems

Maximizing purge volume reduction is a key goal of the Retro ZIST technology. There are two aspects to this concept. First, there is the casing volume, which is addressed by using the stacked sealing washers to isolate the well screen from the above casing. Second, there is the well screen volume itself (including the surrounding filter pack), which the Volume Displacement Stem minimizes while also supporting the isolation washers and receiver. There are two deployment options available. Option #1 uses a screened PVC support post composed of stacked Displacement Barrels and Option #2 uses a sand-filled solid support inner well screen. These options displace 65-85% of the water volume stored inside the well screen section of the well.

#### Water Level Measurements

Water level measurements are simply accommodated. The pump is lifted up a few inches off the docking station allowing groundwater within the well screen to communicate with the atmosphere and adjust to hydrostatic pressure over time. The tubing slack (from the slightly lifted pump) is attached via a tubing clip located on the underside of the well suspension cap. When the operator opens the well, the first task typically is to obtain a water level measurement. The pump is then reset into the conical docking station by lowering it a few inches until it seats – thereby allowing the well screen section to be purged and sampled.

## BESST Volume Booster
Maximize the volume of each pump stroke!
When used in conjunction with BESST’s [Panacea Pumps,](/products-pages/panacea-groundwater-sampling-maps) BESST’s Volume Boosters enable sampling and purging from wells with water columns as small as 4 feet, and can be used at depths up to 2,000 feet below ground surface. The greater pump stroke volumes created by the Volume Booster means that the same Panacea Pump can be used in both the purging and sampling processes, dramatically reducing time spent in pump deployment and retrieval.

The Volume Booster is installed in line with a BESST Panacea Pump and sits directly above the pump, connected with tubing and compression fittings. The Volume Booster acts as a reservoir, storing additional water to pump from the well. Water in the Volume Booster is stored along the gas-in line for the system, maximizing the amount of water that can be sampled without any nitrogen gas coming into contact with the sample. Proper choice of Volume Booster can reduce sampling events to as little as 25% the amount of time they would otherwise require.
The Volume Booster is available in a variety of materials and sizes, able to be adapted to any monitoring well. Deep water, small water columns, narrow or even crooked pipe, there is a Volume Booster for every well. BESST’s Volume Booster unlocks the full potential of the Panacea Pump, making purging and sampling fast and efficient.

## BESST Timer Control Unit

#### Automate and optimize pump operation

BESST’s [Panacea Pumps](/products-pages/panacea-groundwater-sampling-maps) are powered by cycles of pressurized nitrogen gas or air which lifts the sample or purges water to the surface. BESST’s Timer Control Units (TCU) allow for easy control and automation of the discharge and recovery cycles when using BESST Panacea Pumps.
The TCU is housed in a sturdy Pelican case for increased portability and field durability, and features an easy to use interface. A dual cycle timer controls the discharge and recovery cycles times, and a pressure gauge provides a read out of the pressure being used. Timer controls are extremely flexible, allowing different times for discharge and recovery. This versatility enables use in a great variety of wells: low or high water volume, fast or slow recovery rates.

- Available in single and multi-channel models for controlling up to 4 pumps at once
- Perfect for nested or close proximity wells. Multi-channel controllers have integrated regulators for individual pressure control
- AC or DC power options
